Exciting First Week

Our expectations for this little site were greatly exceeded in this first week. Not only did we register over 5,000 users, but we also got nods from some great publications—like this great writeup from Wired.

We also ran into a few bumps in the road. On Wendesday, SeeqPod—the web site whose API we use to find some of our songs—completely changed their API, leaving us scrambling to update our site to comply with the changes. The fixes have since been made, deployed, and we’re hoping we’re back on course.

Naturally, we’ve got all kinds of features we’d like to add to the site, and now that we’ve got the SeeqPod kerfuffle taken care of, we hope to focus on those features in the future.

The first major change we’re making to the site relates to the Popular Playlists page. If you haven’t noticed, the same playlists have been dominating this page day in and day out. Not very useful, right? We love great playlists, but we want to encourage users to discover new music—something they can’t do with the same few playlists dominating the popular page. From here on out, the popular playlists page will be limited to playlists created within a specific time period.

And remember, if you don’t want to lose track of a playlist you love, you can always add it to your favorites!

Great job guys. It looks very promising :-)

I have a feature suggestion. I am missing a search box, for finding playlists. It would be great if people were able to tag their playlists with keywords for instance with genre, composer etc. That would make it much easier to find the music I am in the mood for :-D

Keep up the good job. Love it !

    Fantastic application.

I have one silly question. How can I add to my favorites the playlists I like? I see how to add songs but not playlists.

    Thanks in advance!

I think that to launch your great website you should have much more playlist, one for any genre made by DJ’s of that genre.

    greetings.

Stack overflow http://stackoverflow.com/questions and http://reddit.com solve similar problems by allowing:
    * a “new” tab, to see the most recent playlists
    * a “hot” tab to see recently popular playlists (they use a combination of time and votes to rate for hotness
    * a “top” tab for the highest rated over all

I would recommend the “hot” style as the default, but I would like to be able to easily see the most recently added playlists too.

i really like the idea of keeping the main page playlists for the day only.. heck, i just found a bunch of new music tonight from sifting through them!

would very much appreciate being able to review all-time favorite playlists though.. perhaps a page that is not on the main site? or a way to search for the top playlists if i were in the mood?

i love the new stuff, but i like to pick through the tried and true every once in a while too :)

hit send too soon! would like to add that i am truly in love with mixtape.me. never had something like this to listen to old beloveds and search for new music. it’s changed my work and hang-out time significantly.. it’s a much nicer place to be here now with all the lovely tunes.
